Greg Habstritt created the Trusted Authority Formula Program with several things in mind – one of them being that if a business isn’t the authority on something, it’s just a commodity. His program is a step by step process on how an entrepreneur can become a trusted authority in their business and in their field. Habstritt describes a commodity as “something which is interchangeable with another product of the same type.” Another definition that he uses for commodity is “a generic good for which there is a demand, but which is supplied without any differentiation in the market”. So what happens if what you are selling is seen by the market and potential customers as a generic, interchangeable good? How do you survive?
The bottom line is you can’t. If you are just a commodity, you have no customer loyalty and customers aren’t going for the best quality, they are just going for the cheapest price. If you have clients and customers asking for discounts and trying to talk your prices down and you are letting them – this will be your downfall. In order to stop your clients from beating your prices down and taking you to the cleaners, you have to become the trusted authority. That’s where the Trusted Authority Formula Program comes in.
You don’t have to be the expert in your field. An expert has knowledge and information, but the trusted authority has influence and power. The example he gives is that if you are trying to become the trusted authority in dog training, you must have owned a dog or worked with one. If you have had absolutely no experience, you can’t be a trusted authority on the subject. You don’t have to be the best dog trainer, you just have to be able to help clients and customers solve their problems.
The biggest challenge, according to Habstritt, that most people have with becoming the trusted authority is self-doubt. You have to claim you the title, no one is going to hand it to you. He says that when he was building his real estate company and becoming a trusted authority in real estate coaching, the only person who thought he wasn’t a trusted authority on the subject was actually him.
By positioning yourself to be the main authority on the subject, you will become that, with the help of the Trusted Authority Formula Program. However, having self-doubt and the inability to see yourself as a leader, will only hold you back. Become the authority in your field, not the commodity. It can make you millions.
